I Can't Hear You: The end of 121.5 MHz Satellite Monitoring

It's been a long time coming, but now it's here.

As of February 1, 2009 only ground-based facilities and aircraft in flight will be monitoring 121.5 MHz ELT signals.

So this is a good time to start keeping Com 2 tuned to 121.5 MHz when it's not being used to check the ATIS at

your destination airport or talk to flight service.  And, of course, it should be the last frequency you listen to before

shutting down - just to make sure that last landing wasn't a little harder than you thought.
